‘My Last Duchess’ is a beautiful portrait of a Duchess in the form of a dramatic monologue by Robert Browning. The whole picture is created from the point of view of the Italian Duke who very cleverly tries to convince the messenger of the neighboring count that he has not done anything wrong in giving the orders of killing the Duchess. He puts the blame on her that her simple and smiling nature is responsible for her tragic end.
But in this attempt to her indirectly introduces himself to the readers as a self-central, money-minded proud, inhuman male chauvinist who cannot see anything beyond his royal lineage, status and ego-centric reputation.
